Why the eagle?
The eagle lives nearly as long as a human — but only if it passes through a painful process of dying and being reborn.
At forty, its talons lose their grip, its beak curves, its wings grow heavy. To fly, to hunt, to survive — all become burdensome. Then it has two choices: to perish, or to retreat to the mountaintop and undergo a 150-day process of renewal.
It strikes its old beak against the rock and waits for a new one. Breaks the worn talons too. Then the old feathers. From that long rebirth emerges an eagle that can live for three more decades.
Organizations are the same. Survival and growth require a process of constant change — through training, consulting, new attention to people.
We always have a choice — step forward or stagnate.
